To install the Bash shell on Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open Windows Terminal as Administrator:

    • Click on the Start button.

    • Type “terminal” into the search bar.

    • Right-click on the Windows Terminal result and select Run as Administrator.

  2. Install Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL):

    • In the Windows Terminal, type the following command:

  • This command will begin downloading and installing the necessary assets for WSL. The process may take a few minutes as the subsystem is several hundred megabytes.
  1. Restart Your Computer:

    • After the installation completes, your computer will need to be restarted.

    • Type the following command to restart immediately.

  2. Configure Ubuntu:

    • The installation will resume automatically after your computer restarts.

    • It will download and install Ubuntu (the default Linux operating system that comes packaged with WSL).

    • You’ll be prompted to pick a username and password for your Ubuntu installation. These credentials don’t have to be related to your Windows 11 login details, and it’s recommended not to reuse the same password.
